School Counseling

School Counselor Certification K-12

In order for applicants to become certified in Louisiana as a School Counselor they must have a Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university. They must complete a supervised practicum or internship in a school setting. Applicants need to have 24 semester hours of graduate credit to include three semester hours in each of the following area(s):

Applying to become a Certified School Counselor

If a graduate meets all the requirements to become a Certified School Counselor, they need to
complete the Ancillary Certification Application Packet and submit it to the Louisiana
Department of Education.
