Achievements

The Department of Biological Sciences participated in the collection and donation of PPE for healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.  These donations included gloves, face shields, masks, and gowns to the Tulane School of Medicine (uptown donation location).

 

The Magis Awards are in and we congratulate Best Buddies for winning Student Organization of the Year, and graduating senior, Abby Perez (BIOL '20) for winning the Rev. James Carter, S.J. Award for Outstanding Leadership.

Phil Bucolo was selected for the CAS Excellence in Teaching Award for 2020. Congratulations, Phil! This photo is of Dr. Phil Bucolo summiting Mt Fuji, Japan in 2010. 

Environment & Biology professor Frank Jordan and students Dahlia Martinez and Tori Rodrigues '22 ENVB  coauthored a paper on the discovery of non-native swamp eels in Bayou St. John, New Orleans.

Cole Green is the recipient of multiple awards! He received the Reverend Percy A. Roy, S.J., Memorial Award.

Loyola biophysics senior Baasel Syed is spearheading Project Wolf Shield, a plan to manufacture 300 face shields using Loyola’s state-of-the-art 3-D printing equipment.  Baasel and Art and Design Chair John Seefeldt secured $4,000 in grants from the Community Catholic Foundation and the Almar Foundation to help them buy supplies.
