Loyola University New Orleans Professor of Languages and Cultures Eileen J. Doll, Ph.D., explores the rapid immigration in Spain by analyzing immigrant characters in more than 30 Spanish plays published since 1989, when Spain experienced an influx of immigrants.
 

The book, “Inmigrantes en la escena española. Buscando una nueva identidad española” (Immigrants on the Spanish Stage. Seeking a New Spanish Identity), was recently published in Madrid, Spain. In particular, Doll highlights the African immigrant character in plays, which dramatists use to call for justice for the new members of Spanish society. In the book, Doll examines the use of language, the positioning of the audience in relation to the immigrant and various dramatic devices.
