Education Alum Garners 36th Award

Lt. Col. Kathy Beauford ’69 (secondary education), M.S. ’79, Director of External Aerospace Education for the Civil Air Patrol Pontchartrain Composite Squadron, won the Frank G. Brewer Memorial Aerospace Education Award and the Aerospace Education Officer of the Year Award. She was also presented with the Lt. Col. Red Sevin CAP Award of Excellence and the Commander’s Personal Award, bringing her total number of aerospace education awards to 36.

Lt. Col. Beauford travels Louisiana hosting CAP exhibits and presenting shows on such topics as The Mars Rover Curiosity, Civil Air Patrol missions, “Are We Alone?” (in the universe), and The Fermi Paradox. She presents at such venues as The Sally Ride Science Festival in Baton Rouge, The Laser Interferometry Gravitation Observatory in Livingston, The Highland Road Park Observatory in Baton Rouge.  She also co-wrote A Teacher’s Companion to the Space Station: A Multi-disciplinary Resource, which has enjoyed international distribution through NASA’s Teacher Resource Centers and Lockheed Martin Space Systems. NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the California Institute of Technology appointed Lt. Col. Beauford as a NASA Solar System Ambassador, one of 563 in the nation.
