2nd Annual Student Peace Conference

2nd Annual Student Peace Conference

Loyola University New Orleans will host its second annual interdisciplinary conference dedicated to global peace. In an effort to promote peace and understanding in our community and beyond, this conference offers students of all colleges and universities in the Greater New Orleans area the opportunity to explore the multifaceted meanings of peace and conflict from a variety of perspectives. Along with speakers, community action programs, and cultural events, there will be an academic component in which all students are invited to present a paper or project on the subject of peace. We encourage individual or collective papers or projects from any discipline, which may include, but is not limited to, peace and conflict as understood through ethics, literature, philosophy, environmental studies, women’s studies, political science, sociology, history, the economy, the media, etc.

Accepted students will present at the conference, and the Middle East Peace Studies Program at Loyola will be presenting awards to three selected research papers (at least one award will be given to a paper relating to the Middle East). The papers will be judged by a committee composed of Loyola University faculty.

Conference Objectives:
1. To promote student activism.
2. To promote student creativity.
3. To promote student research skills.
4. To encourage students to consider viable solutions to problems of violence and conflict existing in our homes, communities, and world.
5. To provide an opportunity for student research publications.

Application Process

The student coordinating committee for the conference is currently accepting 250-word abstracts that explain the student’s research or project proposal and how he or she plans to proceed with it. This conference is open to both undergraduate and graduate students from any discipline and from any college or university in the Greater New Orleans area. Multiple applications and group proposals are accepted. The student coordinating committee for the conference hopes to provide at least three different workshops to prepare students for the conference after they have been accepted.
