The Dux Sociologicus Award
The Dux Sociologicus Award represents the culmination of a sociology major’s total academic achievement at Loyola. This award is annually presented to a graduating senior or seniors majoring in Sociology who have achieved both the highest grade point average in the department, as well as the highest cumulative grade point average in their overall undergraduate studies.
The Jerrol M. Seaman "Spirit of Gemeinschaft" Award
Gemeinschaft is a sociological concept denoting “community.” The Spirit of Gemeinschaft Award is an annual honor presented to the sociology student or students who best exhibit this spirit of community by actively taking part in the life of the department, the university, and society at large. The student must be of superior character as evidenced by the respect and sensitivity he or she has shown for others through interpersonal relationships, as well as through leadership in community service promoting peace and social justice.
To be considered for this award the student must be a senior, majoring in sociology. She or he must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
The Social Justice Scholarship Award for Outstanding Community Activism
The Social Justice Scholarship Award for Outstanding Community Activism is an annual honor presented to the Social Justice Scholarship (SJS) recipient who best exhibits scholarly potential, coupled with a strong commitment to community activism. The recipient embodies the principle of using knowledge and skill in the pursuit of social justice, as well as demonstrates respect for others and sensitivity to diverse issues which arise while serving in a leadership capacity to promote social justice.
To be considered for this award the student must be a junior or senior SJS and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
