About the Department

In keeping with Loyola University New Orleans' commitment to academic excellence, the Department of Sociology offers a rigorous, comprehensive sociology curriculum representing the discipline's theoretical orientations, methodological techniques, and its critical and comparative approach to understanding the collective social forces that shape human behavior and the contemporary social world. We also offer our students the opportunity to specialize in one of three concentrations: social justice and inequalities, law and social control, and global sociology. Consistent with the University's Strategic Plan, we demonstrate a stong commitment to experiential learning, collaborative research, and teaching students to think critically about social justice principles and their realization in the community through social action.
