The project, funded with $50,000 from the New Orleans Business Council, is entitled “A Quasi-Experimental Implementation and Evaluation of Problem-Oriented Policing to Reduce Neighborhood Violence.” The year-long project focuses on high-violence areas within five different neighborhoods. Thirty officers will receive a series of training workshops on designing problem-solving strategies collaboratively with area residents and business owners. The officers will then lead the implementation. After delivering the training, Dr. Capowich will guide the implementation and conduct an impact evaluation to determine whether the strategies were effective in reducing violence. The project also will employ two undergraduate research assistants.
