Wessinger Publishes Article on Teaching New Religions

Dr. Catherine Wessinger, the Rev. H. James Yamauchi, S.J., Professor of the History of Religions in Loyola University New Orleans' Department of Religious Studies, was featured in the American Academy of Religion's special January 2015 "Spotlight on Teaching" which focused on "Teaching New and Alternative Religious Movements". Wessinger, who also co-edits Nova Religio: The Journal of Alternative and Emergent Religions contributed a piece that details approaches she has taken to integrate information about new religious movements into her courses at Loyola. She states that, "The examination of new religions reveals dynamics, issues, analysis, and categories that are relevant to the general study of religions. The study of new and alternative religions is the study of the religions of the world." Read the full article here.
