Dr. Robbie Castleman is an Associate Professor at John Brown University. She earned her Bachelor’s degrees in Religious Studies from Loyola University, where she graduated summa cum laude. She has a Master’s degree in Religion from Florida State University. She graduated with honors and had her thesis chosen for a faculty forum. In the summer of 2002, she spent a week in Cambridge at the Tyndale House, working on her dissertation. Then she completed her doctoral work in the summer of 2003 at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary where she focused on Trinitarian ecclesiology. Her dissertation and doctoral project was titled “Teaching the Trinity.”
Dr. Castleman is a published writer and has books published by IVPress (True Love in a World of False Hope, Faith on the Edge, and Parenting in the Pew). She has also published a Bible Study Guide on discipleship that looks at the whole New Testament picture of Simon Peter. She has other Bible Study Guides published through Shaw/Waterbrook Publishers in the Fisherman Bible Study Guide series: David, King David, Elijah, Miracles. She is a consulting editor of Themelios and contributes to the “Last Word”, a pastoral editorial for this journal.
Robbie sponsors a JBU program she began at Florida State in 1990, “The Dead Theologians Society.” Students meet once a month for dinner and a book discussion and discipleship by a dearly departed saint. This discipleship group has spread to many schools across the country. The inaugural book is G.K. Chesterton’s ORTHODOXY.
For the ’02-’03 school year, Robbie was voted “Rookie of the Year;, a teaching award given by the Honors Program for a faculty person that has taught less than four years at JBU. Dr. Castleman will be faculty for the German Studies Program May-Jun ’05, teaching “Essentials of Evangelical Theology”.
Dr. Castleman is married to the Reverend D. Breck Castleman, and they have two grown sons. When not teaching, Robbie likes to take walks with a beagle named Chesterton and is an avid reader of good fiction.
