Dr. Khan's project involves travelling to the Middle East to study how Muslim scholars are reinterpreting aspects of Islamic Law and the Qur’an in the wake of the Arab revolutions. By visiting traditional scholars over the summer and privately studying both primary legal texts and works of Qur’anic interpretation, he hopes to be able to assess how critical political issues surrounding the uprisings are presently being rooted in the classical tradition. This research will broadly influence his current publication projects on contemporary Islam and teaching.
