Keulman Presents at Political Science Convention

Kenneth Keulman, Ph.D., professor of religious studies at Loyola University New Orleans, was a co-presenter of "Actors and Contexts: Hierarchical Analyses of Multilevel Identities," at the Midwest Political Science Association Annual National Conference in Chicago, Ill., April 22-25.

Keulman’s presentation explored the different complex reasons that individuals and countries have supported European unification.

“Lack of support for integration entails absence of a European identity,” said Keulman. “The causes of not supporting the Union are causes hindering formation of a European identity.”

Keulman continued, “while the existence and strength of European identity is associated with length of membership in the Union, support for integration has often been measured higher in the newly-acceded East European countries than in the old members.”
