Denis Janz, Provost Distinguished Professor of Religious Studies, has been appointed "Consulting Editor" by Fortress Press. His responsibilities include acquisitions in the area of European Christianity, as well as evaluating new European books for possible translation and publication in North America.
Prof. Janz is also General Editor of Fortress Press's prize-winning seven-volume People's History of Christianity (2005-2008). For many years he edited the history of Christianity section of the journal Religious Studies Review. His research and lecturing have taken him to around the world, including Germany, Austria, France, Denmark, Norway, The Netherlands, The United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Italy, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, Kosovo, Albania, the former U.S.S.R., and China.
Prof. Janz received his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 1979. Since coming to Loyola in that year, he has served terms as Religious Studies Department Chair and Director of Graduate Studies. He is author of Luther and Late Medieval Thomism (1983), Luther on Thomas Aquinas (1989), and World Christianity and Marxism (1998), and editor of Three Reformation Catechisms (1982), and A Reformation Reader (revised edition, 2008).
