Professor and Loyola Chair of Environmental Communication Bob Thomas appeared Saturday, Jan. 28 in "Christmas trees come to the rescue in coastal Louisiana," an evening news feature on NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, the most-watched evening newscast in America.
Dr. Thomas, an environmentalist and biologist, spoke with NBC about the state's renowned Christmas Tree Recycling program, which he helped to develop, in an effort to help preserve and rebuild Louisiana's vanishing coastline. Through this important program, "thousands of discarded Christmas trees are creating a line of defense against the ocean’s waves on the Louisiana coast, where erosion is claiming new ground every minute."
