Mass Communication alumna Kiran Chawla '06, lead investigative reporter at CBS station WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge, was recently named a winner of a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Investigative Reporting for her reporting that exposed potential safety violations at an area apartment complex that might have contributed to the electrocution of a toddler.
The regional award was judged against other investigative report entries from four states including Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi. Entries will now go onto national competition with the winners of the national awards scheduled to be announced in June.
Chawla has worked as an anchor and investigative reporter at WAFB-TV for the past five years. She has previously worked at WWL-TV and WDSU-TV both in New Orleans, WVLA-TV in Baton Rouge, and WJTV in Jackson, MS.
