NEW ORLEANS — The Center for Progressive Reform, Loyola University New Orleans, College of Law Environmental Law Center, and Oxfam America will present a one-day forum on April 15, 2016 on risk reduction strategies for the Louisiana coast.

Bob Marshall of The Lens will deliver the lunchtime keynote address - Our Greatest Coastal Crisis: Getting Residents to Act. 

This forum will include presentations of two new research papers commissioned by Oxfam in 2015 to capture the perspectives of coastal communities in Louisiana and experiences with programs in the Gulf Coast and other states: ‘

• Case Studies of Nonstructural Adaptation Strategies: Lessons Learned and Best Practices for Vulnerable Communities in the Gulf Coast Region

• A Sense of Place at Risk: Perspectives of Residents of Coastal Louisiana on Nonstructural Risk Reduction Strategies 

Following the presentations, participants will break into working groups to develop recommended action steps for future preparedness based on the papers and discussions. A panel of local, state and federal policymakers will offer their responses about the opportunities and challenges of risk reduction strategies.
