Valeria Arias ’14 showed up to one of Panama’s top media corporations with no appointment and a resume in hand. Arias was determined to land a job with TVN Media headquartered in Panama City, Panama by presenting her social media skills and portfolio.
Luckily the recruiter was available to meet and was “impressed that she delivered in person and not via email.” Arias recalls, “As soon as I started talking about social media and marketing, she became really excited because she knew that the communication world was evolving, and the company wanted to do just that. I got the job offer letter the week that followed.”
Arias works with the product development department, which handles media, buys on TV, Radio, and digital platforms to clients who wish to advertise with the popular media corporation. Her role is to use the skills she learned from the SMC’s social media program to liaison between the company and client. Arias said, "social media is relatively new in Panama, and the company I work for is all about innovation, so everything Loyola taught me has been valuable. There hasn't been a time where I couldn't complete a task. Loyola trained me so well, and I have all my professors to thank."
