Isabelle “Issy” Bottger together with Mark Tobler and Dr. Paul Barnes, presented a poster on her undergraduate research at the 100th Annual Meeting of the Ecological Society of America (ESA), the largest gathering of professional ecologists in the world, this past August in Baltimore, MD. Her poster "The Influence of Ambient Solar UV on the Growth and Morphology of Plants Differing in Diurnal UV Sunscreen Protection” examined how ultraviolet radiation from the sun influences the growth of plant species that differ in their UV sunscreen protection strategies. Her results provide important insights into the costs and benefits of UV-sunscreen protection in plants and have important implications for developing crop plants that can cope with altered UV conditions occurring as a result of climate change.
