Loyola Physics students, Richard Bustos, Riley Mayes and Thomas Slack, recently participated and presented in the annual April Meeting organized by the American Physical Society (APS), the umbrella physics organization in the country.  Both Riley Mayes and Thomas Slack were selected to present talks in the research panels along with world renowned physicists across the globe, a rare achievement for undergraduate students. Richard Bustos made a poster presentation.

Riley and Richard have both been working with Dr. Biswas on their research on cosmology and gravity. Dr. Biswas also attended the meeting and presented on his "string-inspired" modifications of gravity. Thomas made his presentation on the results from the "atmospheric conductivity” experiment that the Loyola physics department has participated in for the past three years. The experiment is part of a balloon expedition that is organized and sponsored by NASA. The students received individual scholarships from the SPS (Student Physics Society) to attend the conference and the conference experience was a reward for the research they have been doing. The students would like to thank the College of Humanities and Natural Sciences dean’s office, LASpace program at LSU, and the Louisiana Board of Regents (SURE grant) for their support.
