Paddle with an Environment Program Professor through some of the most beautiful swamps and bayous just a short distance from New Orleans in southeastern Louisiana.
The late afternoon into evening and night trip offers a great twilight experience to see firsthand our cypress trees, swamp, marsh plants, and wildlife. We usually see alligators, wading birds, ducks, and other spectacular scenes. With lights after dark we shine for night stalking wildlife - an adventure you shouldn't miss.
Meeting logistics
Reservations: Required by Oct. 20.
Time: 2:00- 9:00 pm Friday, Oct. 22
Place: Next to the Rec Plex (near the Freret St. garage)
Please be on time for departure. The bus will leave on time at 2:00 sharp.
Cost: $10.00. Bring your fee to the Environment Program office at Monroe Hall Room 571 (11:00AM-3:00PM) Oct. 11th - 20th.
What to expect
Travel time is approximately one hour to launch site. Four to five hours is spent in a canoe. No experience is necessary. Life jackets will be provided and worn at all times. Pay close attention to the weather on the day of the trip and dress accordingly in layers. Remember it is often 10 - 15 degrees cooler over water. We go rain or shine as long as the university is in session - no rain date!
What to bring
You'll want to bring the following items:
- Snack foods and water because no stops are made to and from the launch site.
- Dress comfortably. Bring layers. Wear shoes you don't mind getting wet. Consider bringing a light and a camera. Also, bug spray if you are bugged by bugs.
- Water proof bag or plastic bag to carry personal items.
