The Spin from a Music Industry Executive

It's not all parties and rock 'n' roll for Ashley White, the Senior Director of Publicity for Atlantic Records. "It's a lot of grunt work," she says about promoting the label's recording artists.

Still, the job has its perks and quirks -- like promoting the avocado farm owned by pop singer Jason Mraz and working regularly with a variety of national media outlets ranging from Rolling Stone to Perez Hilton to the IFC.

Upon graduating Loyola in 2001 with a degree in Mass Communication and English, White moved to New York where she eventually found an assistant position at Atlantic Records. From there she worked her way up to her current poistion.

The New Orleans native believes Loyola was essential to helping her succeed along with hard work and determination. White advises students to follow suit. "Don't be afraid of hard work and don't be afraid to start at the bottom, she says, "and intern, intern, intern."
