SMC Grad's Passion for Travel Reflected in Social Media Position

The Covington, La., native's passion for tourism and communication has led her to the position of Communications Strategist and Social Media Specialist for Gambel Communications where she teaches social media 101’s to clients and works for a variety of accounts including United Healthcare, Broadway Across America, The Historic New Orleans Collection and the New Orleans Steamboat Company. She's received her social media certification from PR News and is Hootsuite certified.

As an undergrad, Voelker was always interested in tourism, but it was finance that help launch her career when she won a slot on the coveted SMC PRSSA Bateman team. Voelker and her team won first place for their work on the Consumer Bankers Association Financial Literacy Campaign in their efforts to get students prepared financially and academically for college.

While at Loyola, Voelker was also the Director of Crisis Communication for PRSSA, a member of the University Programming Board, an orientation leader, and a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.

Upon graduation, her passion for tourism landed her at the University of New Orleans were she received a Master’s degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management in the fall of 2011. In her graduate work, she focused on social media and its influence on consumer behavior. Before joining Gambel, she held internships at The Ehrhardt Group, Accent on Arrangements and the Louisiana State Museum.

Devoted to helping her community, Voelker is a member of the Young Leadership Council, Jefferson Chamber Emerging Leaders Steering Committee, American Marketing Association, Public Relations Society, and the Phoenix Environmental Organization. In her spare time she enjoys playing softball and kickball for PlayNOLA and listening to traditional jazz music.
