School of Mass Communication Senior Leads Wolf Pack Basketball Team With 3.5 GPA

School of Mass Communication Senior Cameron Hill balances academics and athletics, all while maintaining the highest GPA on the Wolf Pack men's basketball team.

Hill is a public relations major with a 3.5 GPA.  His grades helped the Loyola men’s basketball team earn the top GPA in Division I of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) for the 2012-2013 school year.

"Being a student athlete at Loyola University has been a very rewarding experience,” said Hill. “The amount of help and support I have especially received from the school of Mass Communication has truly been beneficial.”

The Chicago, Ill., native is a forward for the Wolf Pack.  He was named to the Southern States Athletic Conference All-Academic team.  And the SSAC gave Hill its NAIA Champions of Character award.

“Cameron has been a relentless worker on and off the court since his arrival on campus,” said Loyola athletic director and head men’s basketball coach Dr. Michael Giorlando. “He has been an outstanding role model in the community, whether it is working with Big Brother Big Sister, Secret Reading Program, Peer Reader Program, or Each One Reach One Program. We are looking forward for Cameron to play a key role this season in our quest for a SSAC  league title.”

Hill also credits his coach and team for his success.

“Dr. Giorlando and all of my teammates do a great job of holding each other accountable and we always say that being a student athlete doesn't make you better it just makes you different," said Hill.

“We are extremely proud of Cameron and the entire basketball team,” said Sonya F. Duhé, Ph.D., Loyola professor and director of the School of Mass Communication. “Cameron is a terrific student both on and off the court."
