Dr. S. L. Alexander's photo, Habana Viejo, was exhibited in the Fourth Juried Loyola International Photo Contest in the Monroe Library Living Room. The exhibit was open from March 12-29, 2010.
The first photo was in the exhibit in hard copy and the second was a part of the online exhibit. They selected two of the four Alexander submitted as a photo essay.

Having worked as a journalist in my hometown of Miami, I
always wanted to visit Cuba, so on the Silver Anniversary of
The Triumph of the Revolution, I found a Canadian tour,
joined two dozen fellow travelers in Toronto, and prepared
to party like it was 1959.

The poincianas and frangiapani, guavas and coconuts, heat
and humidity, all were familiar--and although some of the
painfully decent Canadians and Mid-Westerners in the group
seemed unaccustomed to decrepit conditions, I felt right at
home in Cuba, the New Orleans sister banana republic.
