The Spanish dramatist José Moreno Arenas is known for his short, comic plays that confront the audience with a shocking twist at the end. He is very active in the theatre of Granada, and is becoming well-known internationally. Several of his short works were performed in Portugal within the past year, and he is receiving critical attention in Madrid as well as in the United States among university professors who specialize in contemporary Spanish theatre. He has published more than 40 of his plays. Rapid-fire humor that envelops serious social criticism is the trademark of this dramatist, and is the reason why he is receiving so much attention currently. His plays deal with everyday problems of common people, and the attitudes of current society.
Teatreves Compañía Teatral is located in Granada, Spain, and they have performed several of Moreno Arenas's short plays. The Director, Carmen Ruiz, has experience in various aspects of the theatre world, including as actress, director, and producer.
