ENVA Students Abroad

Anthony Rizzi, ENVAS '19, is currently interning with EcoSwell in Lobitos, Peru.

Nestled in the dry forest along the northern coast of this developing district, EcoSwell conducts projects to unite the local community with their natural surroundings. These projects include reforestation, engineering, student engagement, and political communications. Anthony is conducting a surfonomics survey for Lobitos in order to understand the value of surfing and wave breaks to help local politicians make more sustainable decisions. The end goal of this study is to submit it to the Save the Waves Coalition in hopes of making Lobitos a World Surf Reserve which would provide international protection to these waves.

When Anthony is not speaking with traveling surfers or local business owners, he is surfing lefts and reading on the beach. Lobitos is a beautiful, almost secret, treasure with year-round waves that is home to fishermen and families suffering from environmental degradation. His work will bring a spotlight to this area to help solve some of its major environmental issues.
