Environmental Science Student, Abigail Tamburello Accepted to REU Internship at RIT

Abigail is a second-year student but she is considered a Junior, and she is double majoring in Computer Science and Environmental Science with a Biological concentration.

Abby has been accepted into the Interdisciplinary Problem Solving in Human Dominated Wetland Ecosystems REU program at RIT in Rochester, New York. The program runs from May 28, 2024 through August 2, 2024, and includes a $6000 stipend, housing in RIT’s global village, a weekly meal allowance, and up to $500 for travel to/from RIT.

As an REU intern, Abby will conduct original research under the guidance of a science mentor, prepare an abstract, present her research at RIT’s Undergraduate Research Symposium, and participate professionally in all REU activities. While she is at RIT, she will be working on her research and other REU activities for approximately 40 hours per week during the weekdays and potentially on weekends if the research requires.

This Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program emphasizes engaging students in interdisciplinary earth systems research that builds collaboration and communication skills for solving complex environmental problems. We will use wetland restoration as a lens through which participants will get hands-on experience in studying the interactions between science and society that shape ecosystem functions and services.
