Student wins Best Advocate Award for mock trial competition hosted by John Marshall Law School

Alex was selected as one of twenty four students from across the country to attend LEAP (Legal Education Access Program) based on their essay response to one of the following questions; "how would you enhance the diversity of the legal community?" or "why and how do you value diversity?"

Alex won the "Best Advocate Award" for the entire mock trial competition.  He received a $5,000 tuition waiver as an individual award.  His team also placed second in the competition and received a $3,500 tuition waiver group award.

LEAP is a program for college juniors and seniors interested in pursuing a legal career. This program supports diversity in the legal profession by inspiring students from groups historically under-represented in the law to become lawyers.

The program brings together students from diverse backgrounds and provides them with the training necessary to successfully prepare and navigate the road to law school. The program also introduces students to the law school application process and extinguishes any apprehensions about applying and gaining admission.

The program helps students prepare for mastering the LSAT, gives an overview of first year law classes, and provides techniques for success as a law student. The program includes legal field trips to Chicago area law firms and the court systems to provide students a perspective on how The John Marshall Law School operates and thrives in one of the nation's largest legal markets.

Students accepted to the program are housed in University Center's Residence Hall, one block from the John Marshall Law School, and provided with a seven-day CTA pass.

Alex stated that it was truly an experience and an opportunity to expand his knowledge of the legal profession.
