State senator started his career at Loyola

Edwin Murray, A'82, L'85, is the Louisiana state senator for District 4, which includes the Lakeview neighborhood in Orleans Parish. Murray has received numerous honors, including being named to Who's Who In American Politics (19th Edition) and honored as Legislator of the Year in 1999, 1998 and 1997.

Sen. Murray is a member of the Alpha Phi Omega national fraternity. He has participated in Loyola University New Orleans' Institute of Politics, the Loyola Law Clinic, Loyola University's Student Bar Association, the Black Law Student Association, the Black Law Student Association's Moot Court Team and served as a fellow for the federally-funded Food for Seniors program, which distributes 40-pound boxes of food to senior citizens living in households that bring in less than 135 percent of the federal poverty level, or about $16,861 for a family of two.
