Loyola students meet with policy advisor to the Deputy Mayor of New Orleans and policy director of blight and revitalization

In September, 2010 political science majors Joseph Billiott, Huntleigh Gilbard and Megan Irving met with New Orleans officials to present their policy brief entitled "Blight Busting Strategies in New Orleans, Louisiana".  The students' research findings were presented to the policy advisor to the Deputy Mayor and the policy director for blight and revitalization.

Policy reports are written by undergraduate students at Loyola University New Orleans as part of the Policy Research course taught by Professor Peter F. Burns..

Students in the Department of Political Science’s Policy Research course learn specifics on creating research projects through this endeavor. Local officials from New Orleans request analysis on a handful of topics and students work in groups of two or three to conduct research and create a policy report on the subject given. Students research the logistical, legal, and financial aspects of the policy and write papers clearly stating the advantages and disadvantages of the program or policy.
