Dr. McDermott received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in the fall of 2014 and joined the Loyola faculty in the Fall of 2015. Prior to that, Dr. McDermott was an Instructor for the College of Business at Southeastern Louisiana University for ten years. 

Dr. McDermott’s main topics of research span the fields of physics, music, and computer science.  Specifically, he is interested in the reproduction and analysis of realistic sound in 3D virtual environments. He has recently moved his focus to accurate acoustic representation in virtual reality systems.
