Achievements

Several graduates of the Department of Sociology were honored at the College of Social Sciences annual Honors Convocation in May 2012.

JC Romero, a sociology major, received the award for "Exchange Student with the Most Impact" at this year's Legends of Keele awards. JC has spent the Spring 2012 semester studying abroad at Keele University in Staffordshire, U.K.

Kieva Council awarded Outstanding Ignatian Senior Woman award. This is the first time a women's basketball player has received this prestigious honor.

Dr. Kathleen Fitzgerald has an article accepted for publication in a forthcoming issue of Sociological Focus.

Dr. Fitzgerald presented papers at three recent conferences and has been invited to be the keynote speaker for the Loyola University New Orleans Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi meeting on April 18, 2012.

Dr. Jaita Talukdar's article 'Thin but Not Skinny: Women Negotiating the 'Never Too Thin' Body Ideal in Urban India was published in the March 2012 issue of Women's Studies International Forum.

Dr. Ladd presents research at the Southern Sociological Society meetings, Dillard University conference, and at the Midwest Sociological Society meetings.

Dr. Anthony E. Ladd, Professor of Sociology, recently presented his research on "Fossil Fuels, Nuclear Power, and Social Injustice: Building a Sustainable U.S. Energy Policy for the 21st Century."
