Loyola University New Orleans Journalism Senior Sidney Holmes, a former editor of The Maroon and Executive Producer of The Maroon Minute, was recently selected as one of three graduating seniors from Hearst Television to serve as the 2018-19 Fred Young Hearst Television Producing Fellows.

Hearst Fellows spend 10-weeks at a Hearst Television station learning from leaders and working on projects to help start their career in newscast producing. After completing the program, fellows are offered a full-time producing position with a Hearst Television station. 

Actress, author and entrepreneur Rhonda Shear, a member of the Loyola University class of 1977, will be inducted in the Mass Communication Den of Distinction on May 11.

The induction will be held in conjunction with the school’s annual senior reception Friday, May 11 in the Communications/Music complex on St. Charles Avenue.

80 high school students networked and learned from leading journalism educators at Louisiana Journalism Education Association’s annual conference and the annual Tom Bell Silver Scribe Contest hosted by the Loyola School of Mass Communication in February 2018.

Attending the conference on Thursday, Feb 1 2018, students learned from leading journalists — and heard the results of a recent JEA writing competition, in which Luc Herbet from St.Paul’s School was announced as the top journalism student in the state, winning a full tuition scholarship to Loyola.

NYT best-selling author and Loyola alumna Kelly Williams Brown '06 is set to release a new book, Gracious: The Subtle Art of Charm, Tact & Unsinkable Strength this coming Tuesday, April 4, 2017.

Brown's first book "Adulting: How to Become a Grown-Up in 468 Easy(ish) Steps," a guide for millennials in managing the stormy seas of adulthood, was widely acclaimed, reached success on the New York Times Bestseller list, and was translated into nine languages.

Students from Loyola's award-winning School of Mass Communication are using Snapchat Spectacles to help report Mardi Gras coverage for the Pulitzer Prize-winning media outlet The Times-Picayune/NOLA.com. Students from Loyola's Social Media Strategies class will be helping to man The Times-Picayune/NOLA.com’s acclaimed Parade Cam throughout the Carnival season and helping to produce parade coverage.

Tom Llamas '01, an Emmy award-winning journalist and anchor of ABC News "World News Tonight," is adding the weekend editions of "World News Tonight" to his schedule. Llamas recently was named Chief National Correspondent by ABC News, according to a memo from the news organization published by Deadline Hollywood.

Morgan Ballard '16 works as an account coordinator at Spears Group, a New Orleans advertising agency.

The Ad Club of New Orleans bestows the "Most Promising Person of the Year" award annually to an advertising professional with less than three years full-time work experience in the industry.

ESPN Sportscaster Michael Smith '01 co-hosts SC6 with Jemele Hill, who he recently worked with on ESPN2’s His & Hers, a daily sports discussion program that premiered in 2014 following the success of Hill and Smith’s podcast of the same name. They are the first African-American duo to host SportsCenter on a regular basis and their shows have launched a new conversational format for ESPN SportsCenter, discussing sports topics, news, culture and social issues.
