Achievements

Tami Hotard earned an English degree at Loyola in 1993, and a Master’s degree in English at Oregon State University. Her book The Beauty of Breast Cancer is to be released and she is currently working on a thriller about the haunting of Charity Hospital in the aftermath of Katrina.

Lesley Lucas, Honors senior majoring in English/Writing, has received a position teaching English in France through L'académie de Poitiers. For the 2010-2011 academic year, she is participating in the Teaching Assistant Program in France sponsored by the French Ministry of Education.

Chair of the Department of English, Dr. Katherine H. Adams was elected to the executive committee of the Modern Language Association, representing the Division of Teaching Writing, an honor that stemmed from her impressive scholarship record.

George Bishop's stories and essays have appeared in publications such as The Oxford American, The Third Coast, Press, American Writing, The Turkish Daily News, The Caspian Business News and Vorm (in Dutch). Letter to My Daughter (Ballantine Books, Spring 2010) is his first published novel.

Daneeta Loretta Jackson graduated from Loyola in 1988 and an M.A. in Literature from George Mason University. She has worked in California, Tokyo, and London.

Senior English major Mark Burgunder spent part of his summer break assisting two English professors on a collaborative project called Airport Reading.

Joanna Krawczyk '06 won a $25,000 per year scholarship to Tulane Law School and will be practicing at Sullivan Stolier & Resor beginning this fall.

In June, English alumna Claire Keegan was awarded the 2009 Davy Byrnes Irish Writing Award.

Martin Pousson received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English/Writing from Loyola University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Writing from Columbia University. He has taught at Rutgers University in New Jersey, at Columbia University in New York, and at Loyola University in New Orleans.

Kevin Rabalais is co-editor of Novel Voices, conversations with award-winning American writers and winner of the Eaton Literary Award.
