Education Program Philosophy And Mission Statement

The mission of teacher preparation programs at Loyola University New Orleans is captured in the three overarching constructs of our conceptual framework- to practice and promote: 1) Education as Cultivation of Relational Thinking; 2) Education Advocacy for Growth of the Whole Person; and 3) Education as a Vocation to Professional Praxis. We believe these three constructs represent critical aspects of education in today's world, and they capture an important part of what makes preparing to become a teacher at Loyola University New Orleans different from any other university. The constructs of our conceptual framework guide teaching-learning experiences across our teacher preparation programs, as well as specific knowledge, dispositions, and skilled actions we look for our teacher candidates to demonstrate in their coursework, fieldwork, and the community. Please see the conceptual framework for a full explanation of our program mission.
