Review the different Biological Sciences Major Sheets and DPCL Forms

Biological Sciences Major Sheets and DPCL Forms

Biological Sciences

College of Arts and Sciences

This major provides an outstanding modern science education and preparation to compete in the best graduate and professional programs. Provides support for students pursuing health professional careers, including medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, optometry, podiatry, nursing, and related areas.

DPCL Form

Biological Sciences with a Concentration in Cell and Molecular Biology

College of Arts and Sciences

This program provides students with a strong foundation in cell biology and associated molecular and biochemical mechanisms controlling cell functions. A strong emphasis is placed on the interactions of DNA, RNA and proteins, as well as the regulation of these interactions.

DPCL Form

Biological Sciences with a Concentration in Ecology and Evolution

College of Arts and Sciences

This program examines the basic concepts of ecology, including the nature of ecosystems, energy flow, biogeochemical cycles, and characteristics of populations and communities of organisms. The role of humans in the ecosphere is emphasized, with particular attention to human population problems, food production, and pollution problems.

DPCL Form

Biological Sciences with a Concentration in Marine Biology

College of Arts and Sciences

This program examines diversity, physiology, ecology, and conservation of microbes, plants, and animals that live in the marine environment. Emphasis is placed on how marine organisms have adapted to living in their environment. Emphasis is placed on how marine organisms have adapted to living in their environment and how humans depend upon and affect marine ecosystems.

DPCL Form

Biological Sciences with a Concentration in Pre-Health

College of Arts and Sciences

This program is designed to guide the student into coursework that will prepare them for health professional schools and careers in health care. A strong emphasis is placed on understanding human biology at the cellular and organismal level as well as the biotic and abiotic environment that impacts human health.

DPCL Form

Biological Sciences with Teacher's Certification

College of Arts and Sciences

A central focus of the Biological Sciences is to engage students in the study of life through active learning in the classroom and through collaborative research in the laboratory and field. With coursework included for teacher's certification, students will be prepared to teach in the secondary education setting (grades 6-12) and fulfill state requirements for a teaching certificate.
