Glory Tomi John and Adelia Obioha received the St. Joseph Pignatelli, S.J., Award for Dedicated Service and Achievement in the Biological Sciences. This award is presented to a student who exemplifies the qualities of Judeo-Christian teachings and has shown integrity, honesty, and loyalty. This award was created through the generosity of Sue Brigsten Smith ’58.
Joshua C. Leaney received the Francis A. Benedetto Award for Excellence in Physics. This is a departmental award that emphasizes scholarship and research achievement in physics and is given by the faculty of the Physics Department as a token of confidence and encouragement.
Five Biology seniors received the Ruth and Lee Faust Award. The Ruth and Lee Faust Award for the Outstanding Graduating Senior in Biological Sciences is given to the graduating student in Biological Sciences with the highest grade point average in the major. The recipients are Yasmeen Magharehabed, Glory Tomi John, Adelia Obioha, Olivia Mipro and Yasmeen Khan.
Professor Verchick was in for a big surprise this week when one of his virtual law classes came together to thank him for all his hard work over the pandemic. The students shared their thanks with him using several hand made signs which they presented during their last Zoom meeting of the semester. A recording of the gesture has gone viral on TikTok, and so far has over five million views and two million likes.

Congratulations to Pre-Health student Tomi John, who was recently crowned Homecoming Queen of 2021 and was awarded the Alumni Association Graduation Award and Grace of Ignatius Award!
Dr. Allyn Schoeffler, assistant professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Earl and Gertrude Vicknair Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, received $89,000 from the Louisiana Board of Regents' Research Competitiveness Subprogram that will support undergraduate research in biochemistry for three years. Her project, "Molecular Determinants of Specialization in Bacterial Topoisomerases from Extreme Environments," will study adaptations in enzymes controlling DNA topology.
Aaron Wiseman ’17 recently started work as an Assistant District Attorney in Orleans Parish. His initial work will be in the civil rights division.
In 2017 the Political Science Outstanding Academic Achievement Award was presented to Aaron Wiseman at the College of Arts and Sciences Honors Convocation.
