Dr. Paul Barnes has recently contributed to the UNEP (United Nations Environmental Program) Environmental Effects Assessment Panel on the environmental effects of ozone depletion, UV radiation and climate change. He was also the lead author of a shorter summary report for Policy Makers.
Dr. Madison Silverstein has a new publication in Psychometric properties of the assessment of COVID-19 attitudes and behaviors, published in Analyses of Social Issues and Public Policies (Silverstein, Mekawi, Alonzi, & La Torre).

A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Sitzman is a scholar-athlete devoting much of her time to swimming and in the classroom as an Environmental Studies (Social Sciences) scholar. In her role as a CRCL student ambassador, she will strengthen the Loyola University New Orleans campus community by helping address the challenges threatening our coast by gaining an in-depth understanding of the restoration efforts happening along our coast while building professional skills and a network. Madeline Janney (PSYC '16) was named 2020 Young Alumna of the Year for her service to the university and New Orleans community. After graduating from Loyola University, Madeline merited a master's degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Southeastern Louisiana University. Currently, she is a speech-pathologist working with adults recovering from stroke or traumatic brain injury and children with with developmental disabilities. Madeline has been serving on the Young Alumni Board for three years and currently holds the position as President of the Board.
Francesca Lausen (PSYC '21) has been named recipient of the Alumni Association Award, which awards $1,000 for tuition costs to only one graduating student per academic college at Loyola. Francesca is graduating this spring semester and is planning to apply to child clinical psychology PhD programs. The Psychology Department Faculty wants to congratulate Francesca Lausen on this achievement.
Dr. Kim Mix presented at the 28th Conference on Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology in July 2020. The presentation focused on the impact of applying bioinformatics methods to investigate SARS-CoV-2 genome sequences in molecular genetics class. Students learned how to evaluate mutation fitness and virus phylogeny in collaboration with scientists from Pine Biotech. This model for integrating bioinformatics into a molecular biology course was successfully reproduced by Dr. Laurie Minns at the University of Montana in an online summer course.
